Modern Substation.. Electrical substations is an important link of the modern power transmission grids due both to their function and number. At this time, approximately 40% of substations are nearing the end of their service life and require redesign. Substations design and construction is a common and rapid process in the developing countries.
Specialists point out the benefits of designing “smart systems”, which includes equipping transformers with automation devices to ensure consistent operation of the substation in optimal modes.
The reality is that most of the documentation on substations is not in digital form, instead, it is in the form of paper drawings and documents. In some cases, part of the documentation is digital but with physical and electrical design environments separated. Combining the two environments accelerates the process and allows to rapidly generate material specifications.
In the general case, substation design includes three stages:
- development of technical documentation
- development of cost calculation
- evaluation and verification.
At the first stage, all properties of the facility must be considered, including operation conditions, hardware type, manufacturing specifications etc. For convenience, the process of documentation development is divided in two parts: construction and electrical installation.
The second stage involves not only cost calculation, but also verifying the calculation and calculating the cost of evaluation.
The third stage is when the documentation is verified by the various authorities to obtain the necessary permits.
The most energy consuming stage in substation engineering is the process of receiving permits and connection conditions.
When determining the type of power of the electrical system, the type of power consumption, the results of power audit and the technical requirements must all be considered.
